Firefighter Aid Ukraine (FAU) was established almost 10 years ago after Edmonton Firefighter and founder, Kevin Royle visited Ukraine on a Rotary Group study exchange focused on emergency services.
As of October 1, 2022, FAU has delivered over 200 tons of aid to Ukraine consisting of firefighter and first responder personal protective equipment, specialty rescue tools, first aid supplies, hospital diagnostic equipment, and surgical instruments. Equipment and funding were collected throughout Alberta, Canada, and around the world from departments, communities, businesses, organizations, and individuals.
Representatives from FAU have visited Ukraine on several occasions delivering equipment and conducting training to regions across Ukraine including; Kyiv, Lviv, Uzghorod, Vinnytsia, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Dnipro, Poltava, Cherkasy, Mykolaiv, Odessa, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Rivne, and others. Since the onset of the Russian invasion, FAU has delivered approximately 110 tons of critical, high-value, equipment, and was the first NGO in Canada to charter a private jet to deliver the aid to the front line.
FAU is proud to have been able to work with organizations such as: Rotary, Amigo Relief Missions, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Osteuropahelfe, and recently Nova Ukraine. Kevin attributes its success to working with these organizations and a strong team including: Makenzie Mandruziak, Dennis Scraba, Stu Shaw, Christopher Perka, Eva Chalmers, Linda Plomp, Cari Sware, Shawn Hawreliak Mark Grocock, Louis Mussbacher, Nikki Booth, Vitaliy Milentyev, Andrew Boitchenko, and an army of volunteers from many rescue services, communities, and the Edmonton Firefighters Retirees Brigade. Volunteers have donated tens of thousands of hours of service.
FAU would like to thank the United Conservative Party for their support not only of the project, but also its support of Ukraine and its refugees. FAU will continue to provide aid to Ukraine’s heroic first responders and medical staff through its work delivering donated equipment and a series of focused campaigns until the resolution of the conflict, but has also committed to assist in the rebuilding of the country.
