She/Her
Taryna Marko began dancing at the age of four, training in ballet, tap, and Ukrainian dance. For twelve years, she learned Ukrainian dance under her father’s instruction, who instilled in her a lifelong love for this art form. At the age of 14, she advanced her training by joining the Shumka School of Dance. Through SSD, she had the incredible opportunity to travel to Ukraine, where she performed in festivals and participated in workshops with esteemed Ukrainian dance companies. Inspired by this experience, she auditioned for Shumka the following year and officially joined the company in 2018.
Taryna is a Ukrainian dance instructor at DanceCo in St. Albert, where she also dances with an adult tap group, continuing to pursue her passion for tap. She is currently completing a dual degree in Science and Education at Campus Saint-Jean.
One of Taryna’s favourite experiences with Shumka is travelling to Victoria for Shumka’s Nutcracker, where they are fortunate enough to perform to a live orchestra. Taryna looks forward to each performance with Shumka as an opportunity to celebrate Ukrainian culture and share her love of dance.
