Arlyssa McArthur joined Shumka in 2016. While growing up, she attended Shumka’s productions and enjoyed the shows immensely. She began dancing at a young age, training and competing in several genres of dance. After completing high school, she wanted to continue dancing, as it had been an integral part of her life. Deciding to try something new, she auditioned for Shumka even though she had no previous Ukrainian dance training. “Shumka has brought me much joy and fulfillment, as well as given me life-long friends and remarkable memories.” Shumka’s 60th tour is very special to Arlyssa. She is proud to be able to share her Ukrainian heritage and passion for dance. “Members, current and past, have become a family, and it is rewarding to celebrate with them!” Besides dancing in the company, Arlyssa is a ballet instructor. She recently graduated from the University of Alberta (2020) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Design and is working as a Visual Communications Designer. She also loves spending time at her family’s farm – an original Ukrainian homestead – where she enjoys walks and roasting marshmallows. She also enjoys painting and drawing.
