He/Him
Michael Zukiwsky’s dance career began at the age of four in the basement of St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Orthodox church. Wanting to improve even further, he soon began dancing at the Shumka School of Dance. In 2016, he auditioned for the Viter Ukrainian Dancers and Folk Choir, where he would remain for four years, touring across Canada and parts of the United States. Finally, he joined the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers in 2020 and has since gone on to join the Shumka Board of Directors.
Since starting in Shumka, Michael has been fortunate enough to participate in several incredible performances, productions, and tours. Notably, he toured across the eastern United States with the National Ballet of Ukraine. While he will always love performing, Michael has truly come to appreciate the importance of supporting his fellow dancers, as well as the broader Ukrainian community.
Outside of Shumka, Michael works as a registered nurse at the University of Alberta Hospital on a neurosurgery unit. In his free time, he enjoys supporting local and touring arts productions, and giving back to the arts community where he can.
