She/Her
Dance has been a part of Calynn’s life for as long as she can remember. Calynn started dancing as soon as she could walk, and by age 2, she was already enrolled in my first dance class. She grew up with Ukrainian dance, ballet, and dabbled with contemporary and lyrical, each style teaching me something new about herself and giving her fresh ways to tell my story through every step, turn, and rhythm. A fun fact about Calynn is that she used to be a competitive figure skater.
In 2017, Calynn had the chance to join Shumka, right when she was old enough to audition. Calynn has always dreamed of being a part of the company since she saw her first Shumka show, Cinderella. Being with Shumka has been a place where Calynn can express herself without words, challenge herself, and connect deeply with her Ukrainian heritage. It’s also where Calynn made lifelong friendships that mean the world to her.
Outside of dance, Calynn is a Registered Nurse at the Stollery. She cherishes caring for others in her professional life and uses dance as a means to care for herself. Whether on stage, in the studio, or dancing around at home, Calynn believes in the power of dance to connect, inspire, and empower. She feels so lucky to be able to experience that every day.
