He/Him
Cowan began dancing at the age of three with the Thorhild Ukrainian Dance Society. He later joined the Shumka School of Dance alongside his siblings, where he took classes in both Ukrainian dance and ballet. During his time with the school, he performed as a child in Shumka’s Nutcracker for two consecutive years, as well as in Ancestors & Elders.
In 2023, Cowan was selected to tour with Shumka as a youth representative for Shumka’s Whirlwind Summer. He toured with two of his siblings who both are apart of Shumka. This experience remains a highlight of his dance journey and deepened his passion for Shumka. He also attended Shumka’s summer dance camps, where he trained with a range of instructors and expanded his dance vocabulary.
After eight years at the Shumka School of Dance, Cowan took the jump and joined Studia Shumka. There, he has continued to grow as a performer, gaining valuable performing experience and forming lasting friendships. To further enhance his technique, Cowan also began training in ballet and contemporary dance at the Alberta Ballet School in Edmonton.
He recently completed his first year with both Studia Shumka and the Alberta Ballet School and is looking forward to what the next season brings. Outside the studio, Cowan is a high school student who enjoys spending time with his dog, Max.
