June Eeles is one of the most genuine people we know.  Her contributions to Shumka began at the level of Shumka School, as the mother of 3 young boys who would all in time become members of the parent company.

It has been said that a business isn’t run by the boss, but rather by the talent sitting at the front desk. And in Shumka, it is no different.

At our front desk sits Mrs. June Eeles.  Her official title is Programs and Outreach Administrator, but she truly is so much more.   She knows everyone’s names, from students to parents to dancers themselves; she spearheaded the creation of the Seniors Can Shumka program; she sits on all Shumka School committees even if they aren’t in her job description and has co-chaired dance school fundraising endeavours.  She works 6 days a week during the dance school season and is involved in all outreach activities such as the Shumka Matinee series that reaches thousands of children province-wide, and the Shumka Whirlwind Dance Discovery Tours in Edmonton and areas schools.  Over and over, June has gone beyond what we could ever put into her job description.

Any dancer, parent or staff member who has had the opportunity to work alongside her will know that Shumka has a special place in her heart.  And she too, has a special place in ours.
