Over the last 60 years, Shumka has been the meeting place for many happy couples. Mary and Leo Zalucky were the very first, meeting at dance classes at UNO Hall in 1957 and then becoming Shumka’s first married couple. Both danced with the company for a number of years, with Leo going on to become one of the founding members of the Shumka Alumni Association, further uniting dancers past and present. The dedication of Mary, Leo and the rest of our alumni elevates Shumka from a mere dance company to a family for all generations. Thank you, Mary and Leo.
