“I was blown away by the colour, the movement, the unison, the energy, the spark, the sharpness…it just completely blew my mind, and I knew I needed to be a part of it.”
During her five years with Shumka, Stephanie Lilley worked as a dancer, choreographer, and artistic consultant, completing a 23-show tour of China and 20-show tour of Canada with the company. Currently, she teaches contemporary dance with Studia and the Shumka School of Dance, with her children, Jude and Gloria, enrolled in the School. Stephanie is also the founder and artistic director of Viva Dance Company, who are currently performing at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival.
As Shumka’s artform evolves, we look to individuals like Stephanie to push the boundaries of what Ukrainian dance can be, all while preserving our heritage. Thank you, Stephanie.
