Steel-Craft Door Products Ltd. has always had a special place in the heart of the Shumka community. Founder Art Mihalcheon always found ways of continued support for Shumka over the years, and his daughter and current owner Kim Mihalcheon continues that support today. From generous financial donations and ticket purchases for Shumka’s many productions, to storing merch, shipping props and sets, and having a place for us when needed, Steel-Craft’s support has helped Shumka thrive. Some of the elaborate sets and props, like the kobzar from Kobzar and the boat from the Nutcracker, have been designed, created, and manufactured by the amazing staff at Steel-Craft.
A company which was also founded on the principles of hard work and passion for future projects, Kim describes how Steel-Craft shares many of the professional values Shumka has. “The synergy between shumka and Steel-Craft is much like your name; it’s a whirlwind and when you look at the creative arts and power and energy, we are very much alike.”
Steel-Craft has also employed some Shumka dancers, including artistic director and choreographer John Pichlyk. As Production Manager at Steel-Craft, John had the flexibility in his schedule to work on choreography and preparing shows for Shumka, where he was needed.
After 40 years, Steel-Craft is Shumka’s longest corporate supporter. We are ever-grateful for our partnership and the opportunity to make this facility a hub for the arts community and for Shumka.
