“I had just started with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and was covering arts and entertainment for both radio and television. I recognized that Shumka was an organization that was different. They had artistic roots and roots in the community and they were able to bridge those together. They took it very seriously, but had great fun!
Before I was done I had three children who all went to Shumka. I learned what hard work was just by watching them. It’s something that you carry with you your entire life. I am so proud to be a part of this organization.”
Colin MacLean is an official “Friend of Shumka” who has helped promote the company and its work through his decades as a respected voice in the Canadian arts media. He is also Father to the three MacLean sisters who shared their dance talents with Shumka in the 1980s. Thank you for your ongoing support, Colin!
