As President of the Shevchenko Foundation, a national, chartered philanthropic institution dedicated to the preservation, promotion and development of the Ukrainian Canadian cultural heritage, Andriy Hladyshevsky has seen first-hand the benefit that Shumka has brought to all of Canada.
“It becomes really obvious when you receive hundreds of grant applications when an amazing one sticks out. That one is always Shumka. The board stops and we all want to relish reviewing the grant. Shumka has literally raised the bar. Over the years, the grants have gotten larger and we discuss where that money should be placed. Shumka is one of those organizations that you want to see continue and have support. No one has been disappointed in anything Shumka has ever done and in 60 years, that’s quite an achievement. It is a multi-generational organization, which requires a lot of things to go right. There is a huge amount of love and determination and self-sacrifice that accompanies that.”
“Shumka is one of those beacons that is a wonderful arts organization that is in dance, but also in a lot of other visual and creative arts. They don’t just produce art for their family, but for everyone to see, across Canada, for the benefit of all Canadians. Canada is lucky to have Shumka.”
Thank you for your years of support, Andriy.
