In anticipation of the October world premiere of Shumka’s UKRAINKA: The Four Faces of Lesya UkrainkaShumka is pleased to offer a unique behind the scenes look at the making of the production. Behind the Art of Shumka’s UKRAINKA will be on display at the Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts (ACUA), June 1 – 29.

About the Exhibit
The exhibit features: original paintings used for theatrical projections by Andrii Zliobin of Kyiv; costumes designed by Anna Ipatieva of Kyiv; and behind the scenes video including choreographic sessions with Tania Lozova and Yaroslav Tkachuk of the National Ballet of Ukraine.

Behind the Art of Shumka’s UKRAINKA Paint Night
On Friday, June 21 at 7:00 p.m., join local artist Hannah McMillan for a Paint Night inspired by Lesya Ukrainka.

Behind the Art of Shumka’s UKRAINKA Motanky Workshop

On Saturday, June 22 at 5:00 p.m., join local folk artist Myroslava Oksentiuk for a Motanky Workshop inspired by Shumka’s Ukrainka. Motanky dolls are protectors and guardians who lead us through our life journey. Create your own Motanky doll and learn more about their origins and meaning.
